A Civilian Conservation Corps–built lookout from the 1930s on top of 1,313-foot Mudlick Mountain in Sam A. Baker State Park, still used to spot smoke over the heavily timbered hills. The tower itself isn’t open to climb, but a spur off the Mudlick Trail leads up to it, past CCC stone shelters and overlooks of Big Creek. The park also runs occasional guided fire-tower hikes; check its events calendar.
